The Role

We’re seeking a DevOps Engineer driven by a passion for collaborating in autonomous, self-directed teams to develop complex systems using lean and agile principles. Your work will focus on delivering incremental business value in each sprint while enabling scalable solutions. In this role, you and your team will enhance and operate an enterprise platform designed to process and utilize data, improving the healthcare experience for millions of Americans.

You’ll be part of a multi-disciplinary, agile Foundational Components (FC) team tasked with improving and modernizing DevSecOps and data governance practices in government healthcare systems. The team balances research, prototyping, DevSecOps consulting, and AWS cost management. The project work is primarily remote but may require some client on-site work estimated at <10%.

Your work will primarily be comprised of:

  • Software maintenance of existing Python applications

  • Software maintenance of existing NodeJS applications

  • Software maintenance of existing Terraform IaC

  • Design and development of new Cloud and DevOps solutions to support business needs and growth

  • Performing vulnerability analysis and remediation

  • Documentation creation and maintenance

  • Proactively searching for innovation and improvement opportunities for the supported systems and consult the client with the innovation options.

  • Acting as a SME for many different technologies or solutions.

  • Providing consultation around these areas where applicable to the clients and helping improve processes within and across team boundaries.

You will collaborate with team members to develop tools that support several product development teams across a broad line of business. At times this will be application development or infrastructure as code. At other times you will have a consultative role, developing recommendations with partners and customers.

You are a self-motivated individual who is willing to collaborate when problems and roadblocks arise.

You do independent study, and make progress on your own which you then share with the team.

You can pivot quickly when changes arise.

You are aware of security best practices, skilled in assessing security findings, and can monitor a live production system for errors and vulnerabilities.

You will contribute to the design and architecture of software and infrastructure to ensure projects meet goals for security, scalability, maintainability, availability, and resiliency. You clearly articulate and present the implications of design and architectural decisions, issues, and plans to program leaders and stakeholders.

You will collaborate with other teams to define supporting infrastructure and software tools needed to run and monitor software in a large scale environment. You socialize and coach cloud services tools, solutions, and services.

You will learn and analyze new technologies and industry best practices to identify suitability for adoption by the development team, our partners, and customers.

You will develop reusable patterns and encourage innovation that will increase team velocity.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of Application Development/DevOps/Infrastructure Automation

  • A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience

  • Strong collaborative and communication skills

  • A passion for learning new technologies and the ability to do so quickly

  • Ability to write high-quality code efficiently

  • Strong core Linux networking, shell scripting, and administration skills

  • Knowledge and experience with several of the following:

  • Experienced in automation using infrastructure-as-code (IAC) with AWS CDK, Terraform, and/or CloudFormation - AWS CDK preferred

  • Working experience with container technology such as Docker and Kubernetes

  • Bias towards build & pipeline automation, proactive monitoring and shifting testing and security left with tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Packer, CloudBees Jenkins, Nexus, Splunk, SonarQube, NewRelic, Nessus,

  • Expertise in cloud infrastructure security and IAM privilege management

  • Experience with AWS infrastructure components such as EC2, ECS, ECR, EKS, Lambda, RDS, Redshift, EMR, KMS, CloudFormation, Route53, Scaling Groups, etc.

  • Experience in security aspects of cloud infrastructure, vulnerability scanning and remediation, threat modeling and detection, static and dynamic testing, and security documentation

  • Experience with automated unit testing, end to end testing, smoke tests striving for 100% automated test coverage

  • Experience with application logging, monitoring, and alerting

  • Experience building APIs using a microservices architecture
